Do you agree or disagree. It is important for government to protect wild animals and wilderness areas for future generation.

The importance of environment protection and sustainable development can never be overly emphasized and it is of vital importance for governments all over the world to collaborate and take concrete measures to tackle problems which will potentially undermine the well-being of wild animals or jeopardize the stability of ecosystem for the sake of present and future generations.

The protection of wild animals and wilderness areas are closely linked to our daily life and future. The significance of wild animals to humans may not appear to be ostensible, yet they implicitly exert influence on us. A case in point is the story of beavers. Before the European dwellers’ arrival, some 3oo million beavers were found in North America. However, after the colonization of the new world, the number dropped drastically because the high price for their furs in European market sparked over hunting. Surprisingly, the influence of such irrational killing goes far beyond itself. As the number of beavers decreases, the dams built by them also diminished and so did the ponds created by those dams. This vicious chain reaction means less ground water could be absorbed into the aquifer. Scientific reports have indicated that the shortage of water in some areas nowadays has a close connection with the killing of beavers in the 18th century. This example clearly demonstrates how people are influenced by a seemingly unrelated species. Compared with wild animals, the impact of damaged wilderness are more likely to be observed by people.Any educated people now can point out clearly the relationship between deforestation and global warming. If  the environmental continue to  deteriorate without any precaution or check, future generations would live(if they can still survive) in a hellish planet. Thus, the governments’ responsibility is quite clear: sparing no efforts in protecting wild animals and wilderness areas for both now and future.

The reason why government should take such a responsibility is also more than obvious: to accomplish a feat like this, individuals’ power is limited. No individual, however powerful he or she is, can  solve problems such as commercial whaling or over hunting. In a society, individuals can have a say in such issues by protesting against those malicious actions but still need the coordination of government to allocate resources effectively and make feasible policies. Moreover, it requires courage and farsightedness for government to take action. The whaling industry in Japan is globally protested yet it still needs the Japanese government to strike a balance between protecting the industry or the wild lives because giving up whaling means  a loss of billions of dollars. A few months ago, a Chinese medical company named Guizhentang sought to go public and aroused a great controversy in Chinese society. The dissatisfaction lies in the fact that Guizhentang is notorious for drugs made from bear gall. The shocking images of miserable bears led to a series of onslaughts, both by famous writers and ordinary people, on the company. Yet, Chinese government seemed to be lukewarm about the company and allowed the company to issue its securities for the financial benefits it may bring. Thus, the attitudes of a government play a key role in such an issue. Whether the world is to survive at all depends on whether  governments  can realize the seriousness of environmental damage and  brave enough to give up temporary benefits.
