Increase teacher’s salary is the best way to improve education.

The controversy that whether the best way to improve the quality of the education is to increase the teachers’ salary has aroused many people’s attention. Some hold the belief that a higher salary makes teachers concentrate more on their teaching and thus improve education quality. However, from my perspective, increasing the teachers’ salary is one of the ways to improve the quality of education, but not the best.

Admittedly, a teacher with a high salary will be more likely to refine his or her teaching job, and a high reward may plausibly  related to  a qualified education. Also, it seems that in those top schools, the teachers are all with high salaries. Yet, as far as I am concerned, there are other aspects which influence the quality of education more than teachers’ salaries. I will amplify my notions as follow.

First and foremost, it is critical for a school to update the infrastructures and facilities in order to create a better learning environment for students. Undoubtedly, teachers just act as guides in the whole educational system, and the most important thing for students is to do research or explore by themselves. Consequently the schools are responsible for renovating some old facilities, just like libraries or labs, in order to meet students’ needs. I would like to illustrate my opinion with an example of my brother. He is a student in one of the top schools in our city and his school has just updated the laboratory. My brother told me that he could do more experiments which were not allowed before and he wrote a host of lab reports so that he got a desirable grade in the end of the semester. It is obvious that the modern facilities can improve students’ creativity and makes it possible for them to put theory into practice.

In addition, if a school has enough money, it can provide excellent students with a higher scholarship or financial aids rather than increase teachers’ salary. According to a local investigation, 90.3 percent of students, who have got a scholarship before, states that a higher scholarship encourages them to work harder. On the other hand, a scholarship makes it possible for gifted and hardworking students from underprivileged families can go to school as well. With such efforts, it is expected that a higher proportion of population can be involved in education and thus enhance the overall quality of education.
I concede that teachers’ better welfare may lead to a better educational quality. However, financial wise schools should make the most use of the money and use it in some other effective ways.
